Most importantly, it is necessary to separate yourself from the situation at hand to calm down and view things from a realistic perspective.
- Many times in the heat of a discussion or situation, our emotions are clouding our perception of what is really going on and not allowing us the opportunity to forumulate an appropriate response to our problem.
- By temporarily removing ourself from the situation it allows us to calm down, view the circumstances from all angles and develop a response that will not make things worse.
