Adapting to Change
Our day to day routines can be all but routine. While we all retire at the end of an evening to hopefully rise to a new day, it is very likely that at least some of us will not eat the same breakfast, lunch, or dinner Sunday through Saturday of any given week, neither will a sizable percentage of us submit our bodies to the same exercise routines or chat with the same people.
While change is not always so simplistic it is inevitable. A favorite passage states,
1 For everything there is a season,
a time for every activity under heaven.
2 A time to be born and a time to die.
A time to plant and a time to harvest.
3 A time to kill and a time to heal.
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
4 A time to cry and a time to laugh.
A time to grieve and a time to dance.
5 A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.
A time to embrace and a time to turn away.
6 A time to search and a time to quit searching.
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
7 A time to tear and a time to mend.
A time to be quiet and a time to speak.
8 A time to love and a time to hate.
A time for war and a time for peace.
Very often change involves letting go of something, someone, or someplace. At other times, it involves holding on to the same.
No matter how it comes, all change demands action which can be mental, spiritual, or physical. Or it may demand a combination of two or all three. And, in so doing, one cannot flee from the situation when seeking a desirable outcome. Instead, the situation must be embraced and engaged.
At times, we are caught up in change. At other times, we schedule change. Either way, approach change with a realistic view, knowing that whatever the adjustment may be it will likely take time.
